Founder, Board Member, Coach
Alan Pflueger is a fifth generation resident with native Hawaiian ancestry. He and his wife of 30 years have two sons Hunter and Max. A local businessman with the desire to give back to Hawaii's youth and provide exceptional opportunities.

In 2019, Jennifer began volunteering with Ka Lahui Kai, assisting with daily operations and strategic planning. She is deeply passionate about supporting youth, believing that Ka Lahui Kai provides an exceptional opportunity to nurture confident, motivated, and compassionate individuals.
Bret Chuckovich

Bret Chuckovich

Board Member, Coach
An enthusiast of paddling since 1986 with the Outrigger Canoe Club, Chuckovich has claimed numerous State Championships and long-distance race victories. Over ten years, he progressed from being part of the first crew to becoming the head coach of the women's program.

Jennifer Kilpatrick Bio

Jennifer Kilpatrick moved from Nevada to Hawaii in 2008. Before relocating, she was a Senior Associate at Colliers International, focusing on sales and leasing in the Industrial real estate sector.

In Nevada, Jennifer was involved in community service. She served on the board of the Links For Life Foundation, a charity aimed at aiding disadvantaged children, and was a board member of The United Way of Southern Nevada, leading their accreditation committee. Upon moving to Hawaii, Jennifer has dedicated herself to volunteering and addressing various community needs. She has chaired local school fundraisers and provided ongoing support and volunteer efforts for organizations like the Hawaiian Humane Society, Paws of Hawaii, and Hawaii Foodbank.

Since 2013, she has been a Court Appointed Special Advocate, advocating for abused and neglected children in the community, a cause close to her heart.

Alan Pflueger Bio

Alan Pflueger is a fifth generation resident with native Hawaiian ancestry. He and his wife of 30 years have two sons Hunter and Max. A local businessman with the desire to give back to Hawaii's youth and provide exceptional opportunities. Alan founded Ka Lahui Kai using the ocean as a platform to share life values to better prepare today’s teenagers to be positive leaders of their future. Alan an accomplished waterman was inspired to coach after being coached in outrigger canoe racing by his father Jimmy who was a paddler on Duke Kahanamoku’s team.

Bret Chuckovich Bio

Bret Chuckovich owns Pacific Outdoor Living, a premier residential landscape company in Hawaii. Raised mainly in Hawaii, he spent 3.5 transformative years of his youth in Chamonix, in the French Alps. This period ignited his passion for cooking, the importance of meaningful mealtime conversations, fluency in French, and a profound respect for safety in mountain and ocean settings.

His educational path took him to the University of Idaho, where he played football and obtained degrees in Kinesiology and Health Science. Post-graduation, he dedicated three years to the Honolulu Fire Department as a Fireman, gaining EMT certification and skills in jet-ski operation, ocean safety, CPR, and lifeguarding.

An enthusiast of paddling since 1986 with the Outrigger Canoe Club, Chuckovich has claimed numerous State Championships and long-distance race victories. Over ten years, he progressed from being part of the first crew to becoming the head coach of the women's program.

His extensive background in ocean sports enriches his coaching at Ka Lahui Kai, focusing on refining every racing aspect, including the rigging system, to outperform rivals. Coaching at Ka Lahui Kai has profoundly impacted his life, providing immense joy in aiding young athletes in reaching their athletic and personal goals. His support extends beyond coaching, including transportation and translation services during trips to Tahiti, as he witnesses their development in the ocean lifestyle.

Ka Lahui Kai stands as more than a paddling program; it's a transformative force in the lives of young men and women. Whether it's providing transportation on and off the water, assisting with translations during trips to Tahiti, or simply witnessing their growth in the ocean lifestyle, he is honored to be a part of their journey.  He is honored to contribute to this exceptional organization's ongoing success and impact.
